This no fail, quick rustic dutch oven bread recipe can be made and enjoyed the same day! No waiting around for days waiting for the dough to rise. You'll never buy another rustic loaf of bread from the market again after making this delicious bread!
1 1/2cupswarm water, equivalent to bath water temperature
1tbspsalt
1packetdry active yeast
3 1/4cupsall purpose flour
olive oil or cooking sprayto coat bowl
Instructions
In a medium sized mixing bowl, whisk together the water, salt, and dry active yeast.
Rest the mixture for 5 minutes, then add in the flour.
Combine the flour until the liquid is absorbed and a sticky dough is formed. The mixture will not look like a typical dough ball, but more sticky, moist.
Coat a separate medium sized mixing bowl with olive oil. As an alternate, you can also spray the bowl with cooking spray, if you wish.
Place the dough ball into the bowl and cover with plastic wrap or a damp tea towel and let rest for 4 1/2 hours. I usually rest mine on the kitchen counter.
After the resting time, preheat your oven to 450 F. Place your dutch oven, with lid on, in the oven while the oven preheats.
Once your oven reaches temperature, remove the dutch oven and spray with cooking spray. Be very careful as the dutch oven will be very hot.
Place your dough bowl on a large piece of parchment paper. You can score the top of the dough ball with a sharp knife, but it is not necessary.
Carefully place the parchment paper, with dough ball, into the dutch oven. Cover and bake for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, remove the lid and bake an additional 15 minutes. This will lightly brown the top and create a nice crust.
Remove the dutch oven from the oven and allow the bread to sit for 5 minutes. Remove and rest for an additional 5 minutes on a flat surface (like a cutting board).
Slice while warm and enjoy with butter, jam, or just plain!
